taff shortage, everyone is dealing with it. Members of Metaalunie are no exception. But how do you solve it? Metaalunie member Innovatec found an innovative solution abroad, through the Dutch company WorldEmp.

What do they do?
Innovatec from Asperen has grown significantly in recent years. The turnover of the specialist in incubators doubled. More work also means a greater need for personnel. "Especially for engineers," says Steven Hummel, Manager Engineering. "Even before the coronavirus crisis, we were growing and finding personnel in the Netherlands was difficult. Until we got in touch with WorldEmp. This company provides highly skilled foreign personnel who work remotely for you.
Growth in turnover and growth in personnel
What were they looking for?
"Since 2019, Dipak has been working with us through WorldEmp. He is actually with us all day via the screen through their platform." So when Innovatec kept getting one new order after another, the solution for personnel expansion was not difficult either. "Dipak is now coordinating three new colleagues working for us through WorldEmp. It is possible that we will scale up further during the course of this year, once Dipak has settled into his new role."

The customer's opinion
Colleagues who are not here in the office, but work through the screen from, say, India. How does that work in practice? Hummel: "Well, very good. Due to the corona, we all now know that remote work works fine. Information easily circulates globally, most programs, such as Event and Autodesk, are designed for companies with various branches worldwide. Dipak and his colleagues there are just as much colleagues as the people here in the Netherlands. They have our email addresses. They also receive general emails. There is departmental meetings every week, also with them, via Teams. I see no reason not to do it."
WorldEmp's way of working also helps, says Hummel. "They have a very thorough selection process, focused on bridging cultural differences. Moreover, employees are intensively guided when they start working. For example, they receive a course on Dutch culture. That we are direct and also expect to hear their opinion."
Of course, there are also things to consider. "You're not constantly watching what they're doing. So you have to make it clear what you want. However, that's not bad; it forces you to be more accurate. And there is a small time difference. At first, we maintained equal working hours, but now we use it to our advantage: we already give them work for the next morning at the end of their working day. When we start, the first work is already done. There is actually only one tip I can give to other companies: think like a multinational, then it will be fine."
